Common Plumbing Questions

Quick answers from our licensed plumbers serving Elyria, Lorain & Northeast Ohio.

How do I know if I have a plumbing emergency?
A plumbing emergency is any situation risking immediate damage to your home — burst pipes, sewage backups, active flooding, or no hot water in freezing temperatures. Shut off your main water valve immediately and call us at (440) 723-8850.
Should I use chemical drain cleaners like Drano?
We strongly advise against them. Chemical drain cleaners can corrode older pipes, damage gaskets, and create toxic fumes — and they rarely fully clear a clog. A drain snake or professional hydro jetting is safer, more effective, and won't degrade your plumbing over time.
How long does a water heater last?
Traditional tank water heaters typically last 8–12 years. Tankless units last 15–20 years with proper maintenance. If yours is over 10 years old and showing signs of rust, leaks, or inconsistent heat — schedule an evaluation before it fails completely.
